Director for Environmental Health and Safety
Duties: Work collaboratively with the administrators, staff, and faculty of University. Responsible for the development, administration, implementation, monitoring and improvement of the University’s environmental, health and safety compliance programs as well as related training programs and initiatives. Partnership with University staff, faculty, contractors, and insurance representatives, will be necessary to successfully implement new programs and/or recommendations. Will also be responsible for coordinating and leading internal inspections to investigate and resolve issues related to general laboratory and university facility compliance and reporting. Provide input regarding Environmental, Health and Safety (H&S) policies and ensure effective communication to the University stakeholders. Ensure the University community is operating in an environmentally responsible manner. Be responsible for the accuracy and timeliness of all permit-required record keeping and reporting. Keep abreast of new, and changes to, US Regulatory and industry EH&S requirements (including any changes to relevant environmental regulations) in order to effectively evaluate the impact on the University and communicate these changes to key stakeholders to ensure understanding of these requirements. Communicate widely and effectively across the University to ensure EH&S issues and responsibilities are appropriately recognized and addressed by process owners. Implement an appropriate monitoring process to ensure that the University is operating in line with Regulatory EH&S requirements. Review and disseminate relevant EH&S data / information (including items such as Safety Alerts, Accident Prevention Notices, etc.) Participate in relevant University committees, such as the Risk and Safety Committee and Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee.
