ESSENTIAL JOB
FUNCTIONS:

learn the safety expectations and techniques and commit to practicing the
prevention techniques and try to incorporate them into daily work habits.

 

 

1.                  
Maintains
established department policies, procedures, objectives and safety and
infection control standards.

2.                  
Cleans
and disinfects fixtures, furniture, floors, walls, sinks, toilets, tubs, waste
containers and equipment in assigned work area.

3.                  
Wet
mops, dust mops or vacuums floors in rooms, halls stairways and public
areas.  Spot cleans carpeting.

4.                  
Gathers
and disposes of trash and waste material using appropriate bags and containers.

5.                  
Replenishes
area with supplies of soap, papers, and other cleaning supplies as needed.

6.                  
Performs
discharge cleaning procedures of patient rooms and prepares room for new
occupant.

7.                  
Cleans
vents, windows, light fixtures, walls and other high areas using a ladder.

8.                  
Prepares
soiled linen for pickup for laundry service by placing in carts and moving to
pickup area.  Uses appropriate bags for
contaminated linen.

9.                  
Receives
processed linens from laundry service. 
Unloads, inspects sorts and places on storage shelves.  Assembles and delivers linens required for
specific departments according to needs and present supply.

10.               
Participates
in educational and inservice programs and attends meetings as required.

 

NON-ESSENTIAL
JOB FUNCTIONS:

 

1.               Moves furniture and other heavy objects
as required.

2.               Buffs, strips, waxes and polishes hard
floors, operating mechanical floor scrubbers.

3.                  
Unpacks
new linen, dates, and stamps wit hospital logo.

4.               May be called in to perform emergency
cleaning after normal working hours.

5.               Performs other reasonably related duties
as assigned by immediate supervisor.

MINIMUM
QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Training
and Experience:  Prefers completion of or equivalent to four
years of high school and housekeeping experience.

 

Knowledge,
Skills, and Abilities:  Requires
working knowledge and ability to perform practices and techniques associated
with housekeeping and linen responsibilities. 
Ability to organize assigned work effectively and work under minimal
supervision.

 

Licenses,
Registrations, and Certificates: 
None.

 

Working
Conditions:
Works in a clean, well-lighted, heated, ventilated area.  Exposed to housekeeping cleaning agents and
chemicals.  May be exposed to infectious
and contagious diseases and bio-hazardous waste.

 

Physical
Requirements:


Work
is of heavy demand, considerable walking and standing, pushing and pulling of
mops, brooms, carts, etc.  Occasional
stooping, kneeling, reaching, bending, crouching, loading and unloading.

 

Physical
Protective Equipment:  Eye and face
protection, gowns and aprons, and utility gloves.
