Formation Damage Laboratory Engineer

The M-I Product Group at Schlumberger is seeking a laboratory engineer. The successful candidate will join a team of geologists and chemists in our Formation Damage and Stability Lab in Houston.

Role and Responsibilities:


Perform analysis and characterizations of formation/reservoir rock samples.
Design and conduct laboratory tests to evaluate interactions between rocks and drilling and completion fluids products, e.g. HTHP return permeability tests, shale-fluid interaction tests.
Provide technical support in formation damage, shale-fluid interactions, and wellbore stability to global operations.
Assume responsibility for a specific phase of a technical service, research, or development project.
Ascertain methods for finding solutions to certain problems and perform these procedures with minimal supervision.
Prepare reports for assigned projects.
Calibrate and maintain laboratory equipment in proper condition.
Carry out research and development assignments pertaining to formation damage and wellbore stability.
Independently pursue study of current literature; attend conferences and symposiums, etc. to maintain professional competence.
Comply with Schlumberger quality, health, safety and environmental policies.


Qualifications and Experience:


Minimum B.S. in geology, petroleum engineering, or mechanical engineering. Master’s degree preferred.
Experimental rock mechanics expertise as well as HPHT equipment experience is a plus.
Special Core Analysis (SCAL) experience is a plus.
Knowledge/experience in fluid/rock interactions is a plus.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to work well with customers.
Candidates must be able to legally work and reside in the US, without sponsorship.
