Post-Doctoral Legal Fellow
Fellow will evaluate incoming information in the form of interview data and observations, written literature documentation, and oral communications, and will use this information to make judgments about what step(s) will next lead to progress in the project(s). Will report to the Deputy General Counsel and will be a member of the Office of Legal Affairs staff, supporting projects through original research and collaboration with other team members. Can expect to prepare memoranda of law, review and draft agreements, interact with other University departments, and assist in other duties involving the full scope of work in the Office of Legal Affairs. Review the Legal Fellow’s work and meet with him or her to provide feedback. Will also contribute to and participate in the office’s training efforts. Will: (1) carry out research and draft documents and correspondence related to legal issues at UNC Charlotte, (2) assist with the preparation and presentation of training to UNC Charlotte employees on various legal topics, and (3) assist in providing legal advice to University Administrators. The fellowship is a one-year appointment with the opportunity for an additional year depending on performance, mutual interest, and funding renewal. Principal research responsibilities will be determined by the legal issues confronting the University during the fellowship term. Will confer with the Deputy General Counsel on overall research direction and strategy and with assigning attorneys for guidance on individual projects, but will exercise a considerable amount of independent judgment and original thinking in carrying out day-to-day activities. By providing exposure to the work and challenges of a university legal office, the fellowship is an excellent opportunity for those with an interest in the field of higher education law or any of the substantive areas in which in-house higher education attorneys practice. Will act independently and receive general guidance from the General Counsel, Deputy General Counsel, the Chief Compliance Officer, and the other attorneys in the Office of Legal Affairs.
